What are we learning today?

You will learn how to use capital letters and punctuation marks in an email and a blog.

Explanation

  • Use capital letters for names, days and months: Liam, Saturday, April.
  • Use a comma after a greeting, in a list and after a phrase at the start: "After the ice rink, we had fun."
  • Use an apostrophe in short forms: I'm, I've, it's.
  • End a question with a question mark. Use an exclamation mark for strong feeling.
  • Use a hyphen in words like Olympic-size.
  • Read each sentence aloud to check it.

Examples

  1. Hi Annie,
  2. I've never seen anything like it.
  3. Would you like to bring some food?

Remember!

  • Do not use a comma instead of a full stop between two sentences.
  • Write "it's" for "it is".

Check yourself

  1. Add a comma: "After the ice rink we went home."
  2. Which mark ends a question?
